How to get XP
XP means experience points. Earn them by learning, then spend them on buildings in Worlds. Start with a course, do its practice, and finish a quiz.
The easiest way to start
- Sign in as the learner. Use the same account for lessons and Worlds. A parent's XP does not become the child's XP.
- Open your course and learn. Try the practice questions carefully. A correct first graded answer can earn a small bonus.
- Finish and submit a module quiz. You earn points for each answer and extra points for correct answers. You do not need a perfect score to earn quiz XP.
- Return to Worlds. Look at XP to build, choose a plot, and check its requirements before buying it.
XP from your course
| What you do | XP | When it counts |
|---|---|---|
| Answer a module or final quiz question | 2 per answer, plus 4 if correct | Finish and submit the whole quiz attempt. A correct answer earns 6 XP total; an incorrect answer still earns 2. |
| Pass a module quiz for the first time | +5 | Score at least 70%. This extra mastery bonus is paid once for that module. |
| Get a practice exercise right on your first graded try | +2 | Applies to saved course text, code, and debugging exercises. Retrying after an incorrect first answer does not earn this bonus. |
| Finish an interactive lesson inside your course | +5 | The course must save a valid completion. Paid once for that lesson in the course; opening it or playing a standalone library lesson does not earn this reward. |
| Finish an eligible course | 20 × eligible standard lessons | One completion reward after the course is verified complete, including its required quizzes. It is not 20 XP paid immediately after each lesson. |
The course completion reward counts standard learning lessons. Interactive lessons and review-only lessons are excluded from that calculation. Some older courses do not support this reward.
You can earn answer points on a new quiz attempt. Reopening the same result or submitting the same attempt again does not pay twice. Copying a course does not restart its once-only learning rewards.
Example: a 10-question quiz
You finish a module quiz, answering all 10 questions. You get 7 correct.
| Reward | Calculation |
|---|---|
| You answered 10 questions | 10 × 2 = 20 XP |
| 7 answers were correct | 7 × 4 = 28 XP |
| Quiz answer points | 20 + 28 = 48 XP |
| First time passing this module at 70% | +5 XP |
| Total for this example | 53 XP |
If you had already passed this module before, the same answers in a new attempt would earn 48 XP. The first-pass bonus is not repeated.
Other ways to earn XP
| Activity | Reward and limit |
|---|---|
| Learn with the tutor for 15 recorded minutes in a day | +18 XP once that day. The time must be recorded by the tutor; simply leaving a page open is not enough. |
| Complete today's tutor-time challenge, if offered | +24 XP when that assigned challenge is completed. This is extra to the 15-minute reward. |
| Answer an optional refresher question | +1 for answering, plus 4 if correct: 5 total for a correct answer. Each question pays once within that refresher session. |
| Start learning in maths, AI, or computer science for the first time | +18 XP for maths, +18 XP for AI, and +18 XP for computer science. Each is a one-time discovery bonus. |
| Start an eligible custom course for the first time | +12 XP for the first tutor session in that custom course. Opening a course card alone does not count. |
Refresher questions use their own reward amounts. They are different from the module and final quizzes in your course.
Your daily streak
Return to your learning dashboard each day to keep a streak. The day is based on your account's local time zone. A streak advances at most once a day.
| Consecutive day | Streak XP that day |
|---|---|
| Day 1 | No streak bonus yet |
| Days 2–6 | +10 each day |
| Day 7 onward | +20 each day you continue the streak |
| Milestone days | An extra 50 on day 7, 100 on day 14, and 250 on day 30 and every 30 days after that |
For example, day 7 gives 20 + 50 = 70 streak XP. These bonuses are separate from the XP you earn through learning that day.
Check and spend your XP
In the tutor, XP earned today uses the same daily reward summary as the dashboard, including quiz rewards and bonuses. For your current spending balance, open Worlds and look at XP to build. Today's earnings and your available balance can be different because you may already have bought buildings or earned XP on earlier days.
If a reward seems missing, finish and submit the activity, give it time to save, then refresh the dashboard and Worlds. Check that you are in the same learner account and that the reward was not already paid. Merely opening a lesson, refreshing a page, or viewing a finished result does not earn its completion reward.
Enough XP, but the monument is still locked?
A landmark needs all three of these:
- Enough XP to pay its building cost.
- Enough completed course lessons: 6 for Chapter 1 landmarks, 20 for Chapter 2, 40 for Chapter 3, and 70 for Chapter 4.
- The required neighborhood buildings shown in the landmark's details.
Earning XP on a quiz retry does not automatically complete another lesson. Check that your course lessons are actually saved as complete. Completed lessons are a running total across your courses and are not spent when you build.
For example, if a Chapter 1 landmark needs 6 lessons and you have completed 4, earning more XP alone will not unlock it. Complete two more course lessons, then check its building requirements.
